Can I just say I love Scotland. I have been there many, many times. There is an irresistible pull to that place, and while I have never had yearning to live there I do always feel like I belong there whenever I visit.
This is me aged 22 months back in 1971. In Edinburgh castle.
and my son on the same cannon in 1997..
While we were there in '97 we went to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo...an awesome experience.
3 years ago I visited with a friend.. I had purple hair back then..
We visited Greyfriars Bobby...read about him HERE...
and of course a trip to the castle..
wouldn't be complete without seeing a piper..
After that visit I made a mini book full of photos and memorabilia, the bases were beer mats, it is complete with tartan ribbon, tiny bottle of whiskey..empty, I had to drink the whiskey..and a penny that has been stamped with the image of the Loch Ness monster...
just for the record, a cropodile that claims to go thru anything, will not make a hole in a penny...
My favourite band of all time is Big Country..They were based in Scotland, and I saw them live many times..
and so my card this week is my version of one of their album covers..
Now to my page...I made a list of my fave things..
Edinburgh castle and Military Tattoo and Greyfriars Bobby..have shown you that..
Big Country..done
Nessie..Gretna..Thistles...Celtic..Fourth Bridge..Whiskey..Haggis..Billy Connelly..Sean Connery..Skye Boat Song..Bonnie Prince Charlie..Massed Pipes and Drums..Ali McCoist..Shortbread..Tatties n Neeps..Heather..Balmoral..Tartan..Glens..Lairds..Stirling Castle..Hogmany..lochs..Caber tossing...
one of those is The Skye Boat Song...I adore this Scottish folk song.. read about the origins HERE...
and hear it sang beautifully here..
it's bizarre that I could write such a long list so quickly, and yet if you asked me to write such a list about England I don't think I could..
and finally another thing from the list is a thistle, this is one I made many years ago using the Stumpwork technique. It measure only 2 inches across..
For my page I used the tartan paper that was left over from the mini book..
HERE IS THE LINK..add your name and blog and go visiting. please only link up if you are taking part in the postcard challenge..
Check back on Sunday for the new country and the winner of last months comp.
Oh Darcy, My daughter's favorite things were the cannons at Edinburgh Castle...that, and trying to get the guards to talk to her! :) Love your memories of Scotland as well as your art...and the song was wonderful... Thanks for sharing!!
