Quick Journal Cover

I am off down South this weekend to demo and teach at The Craft Barn... excited and so nervous!

I have been packing samples to take with me, and one of my journals has a terribly dirty, painty cover. Usually I dont decorate covers until the journal is full, as while I am working in them the covers get trashed on my desk. But they do look too grubby to take away with me, so I make temporary covers that can slip on and off.

This cover is so ridiculously easy to make.. it is literally a rectangle of cartridge paper and a rectangle of brown parcel wrapping paper.

The cartridge paper is painted, stencilled, stamped, embossed... it took about 30mins to do the background and then a little longer to emboss the butterflies and stamp and layer the title.. but def under an hour for the whole thing. These butterflies are fab and were released back in July. HP1506

Droolworthy layers of painty goodness.

I glued the brown parcel paper to the inside and painted it with black gesso. Then the 2 end bits are folded in.

The criss cross embossing was done with EEV05 and WOW embossing powder in Chocolate Caramel Pearl.

and the top and bottom edges are zig zagged on my sewing machine.

Now the journal can just slip inside the end flaps.

All done, nice and tidy..
