7 Day Challenge

...in just 2 days..

I am a member of Jennibellie's ning, and as such I get notifications of new challenges each month. I saw this month that there was a 7 day challenge, but I just didn't have time to follow the rules of the challenge properly.

The idea was to work on 7 backgrounds, all at once, adding a layer to each page each day...Because I was pushed for time I did 3 layers on day one and 4 layers on day 2.

Each day(session) we were to choose an element and add it to each page. We were free to use whatever elements we wanted.

I started with 7 pieces of old scrapbooking paper, each a different size.

Session 1. Add paint. I brayered, scraped and dabbed paint onto the various pages.

Session 2. Add pre-stamped tissue paper.

Session 3. I added stencilling.

Session 4. Add collage elements, I used stamped scraps and magazine images

Session 5. I added stamping, using ink and paint.
Session 6. I added more scraped paint

Session 7. I added blended Portfolios.

This is how the pages ended up. These first 2 I am not keen on, really, too uhmm, not sure, bitty, dark, disjointed? whatever, just not keen on these 2.

These 2 are ok, definitely better than the first 2.

These last 3 are my favourites of the batch.

So those are my 7 backgrounds done for the challenge. Not sure what to do with them now...

EDIT...I die cut most of these sheets into flowers, leaves and birds to use on birthday cards. Worked out brilliantly.

Revisitation! Jennibellie Challenge

Over on the Jennibellie Ning site there is a monthly journal challenge. This month the theme is revisitation, where we are meant to go back to an old journal page that we don't like and rework it.

So here is my contribution.

This was the original page, I was stuck as to how to do it in the first place, and ended up rushing it. I was ok with the right side but really disliked the left side.

I ripped off the silhouette of the fairy, and was left with this.

I knocked back the leaves with some brown and green paint, just applied lightly with a fingertip. I then whited out this shape of a head using gesso.

I used neocolor II crayons and Aquamarkers to fill in the face and wings. Finishing it off with white dots using a Posca pen.

I also added white highlights to the other side.

So here is the new finished page. it was difficult to take a good photo just because her face is created over collage and so the page is a bit bumpy.

Jennibellie Journal Challenge

Have you joined Jennibellie's ning site yet? if not then go HERE  join up.  It is free and you can get lots of journalling inspiration. She has just set up a brand new group that will share monthly journalling prompts, again free. This month is Messy Monochrome.

I felt inspired to join in, and this is my interpretation.

My colour choices came from this leftover bit of painted paper.

I pulled out lots of neutrals, browns, creams, greys and chose blues as my contrast colour. These are FRESCO paints from PaperArtsy

I ripped my painted paper and glued it to my journal page along with some patterned mulberry paper and some old waste strips of paper from the top of a paper pad.

Next I added more colour using NeocolourII crayons.

Over the textured strips I added some Treasure gold, this wax comes in lots of colours and is available from PaperArtsy.

I then added more paint, and a stamped border to parts of the edges. At this point, I have no real direction, I am merely building layers.

I add stenciling and some stamping with a script stamp.

I cut out some bird shapes to use as masks.

I sponged paint around the birds, and once dry I rubbed it back a little to distress it.

I wanted to highlight the border again, so I painted a lighter raggedy line around the edge. I also outlined the birds using a black pen.

My final step was to copy out part of THIS POEM   and to add some more stamped text as a title.  The poem is written all around the border and around each bird.

You can see how how the Treasure gold shines once it is buffed up.

Here is the final page.
