Seth Apter Tag 6

The final tag in my series of Seth Apter Tags.

This tag started off as one colourway and changed completely part way through. I started off with Greys and Black, and made a cool background...

I really liked this background, but it just didn't go with the bits I wanted to put on top...so I turned it over, and started again..

I guess with the having to start again I lost track of what I was doing and forgot to take photos... so this is just a close up of the background.

I began with Conrete, then brayered on Coral , Tango and Banana. This gave me a nice warm summery base. Over this I added the cogs from my stamp EDY02 I used Watering Can Archival as this recedes into the background better than black.

I then unified it all with more concrete.

To enhance the background I added Seth's circle stamp and embossed it with WOW embossing powder in White Pearl.

It is like one of those holographic pictures, it looks regular from the front but tilt it and suddenly these circles appear, it's like magic.

Next I used Seth's dies to cut some smoothy card, this had first been through Seth's embossing folders. Gridiron and Maze. I then painted them with Slate and Cherry Red.

Now to layer them up and interlock, one of the great things about these die cuts is that they feed into each other.

The large circle was cut in half and glued to the outer edges. This was topped with half of my windmill flower from EDY05 The white details are liquid pearls in White Pearl.

To add a little balance to the circles I added a small heart from my stamp EDY01

The Embossed die cuts have a little Treasure Gold rubbed over them, it works brilliantly over Slate paint. I also added the text from EDY02

Almost there I have one more sample to show you, see you soon.

Seth Apter Tag 3

Hi, another tag sample using Seth Apter and PaperArtsy products, a great combination.

This time I started by painting my tag black and added Seth's stars in Teresa Green paint.

Next I brayered some white and then Bougainvillea.

I added more white paint and then used Seth's French text stamp in Library Green archival ink.

I added Cpt. Peacock paint to the edges, plus a little black.

I wanted to add a house, and at first I painted this one in oranges and pinks. but I wasn't happy with it, so this got scrapped. I did keep the text which is stamped on top of Bougainvillea. (EDY14)

So I redid the house using pinks and blues, for this I used prima Watercolours, their colours are just yummy.

The die cuts on this tag are from Ring Around and Drip Drop. They were painted with Dolly Mix and Bougainvillea, these were overstamped with some of Seth's stamps.

Seth has a great stamp which is actually a text stamp, but under the letters is a drip... I used this drip to create a border in white paint.

Here it is finished, I love this tag. It would be perfect for a new home occasion.

Seth Apter Tag 2

Hi everyone, here is another sample tag using a mix of Seth apter products and PaperArtsy products. if you are coming to the Seth Apter event this weekend I will see you there and you can see these samples in person.

The base of this is brayered, such an easy way to get colour down quickly. the colours used are all PaperArtsy Fresco paints. Teresa Green, Banana, Snowflake, Coral.

{If you are not a girlie /pink/orange/peach kind of person and think the new Coral paint is not for you, think again. I did not think I would like it at all, but I am finding myself reaching for it over and over. It is rapidly becoming a fave... it turns out it is a beautiful warm orange, not harsh or citrusy and not at all insipid like a salmon... so do give it a try, I think you will love it.}

Next I used Seth's bubble wrap stamp (ESA01)and Snowflake paint, the large criss cross stamp(ESA02) in Pale Ochre archival, then the dots stamp(ESA02) in orange Blossom Archival.

The ring stamp(ESA01) was stamped in Coral

Sorry no photo, but to finish the background I added my spikey grass stamp EDY18  using Potting soil Archiva and also black.

The focal elements are die cuts using the Robo Ring die these were painted with Turquoise and Southern Skies. The centre numbers are stencilled in Cherry red using the Inside out stencil.

Other dies used were the Ring Around and Splatter Proof. I also added the head of one of my lollipop flowers from EDY06

Finally the text was added from EDY12

Hope to see you all there tomorrow and on sunday.

Seth Apter Tag 1

Hi everyone, I hope you are enjoying a few nice summery days. I have been squirreled away in my room creating samples for a special weekend hosted by PaperArtsy. This coming weekend 3rd/4th Sept, PaperArtsy is hosting the fabulous Seth Apter. Two days of workshops, it is going to be fabulous!

The second of the two days is just for retailers and teachers, and I will be there along with other PA designers, where we will be doing short demos during the day.

I have several samples prepared ready, and over the next couple of weeks I will show them to you.

In each sample I have used a mix of Seth Apter's products ( stamps, dies, stencils) and also other PA products, including my own stamps and stencils.

For this first tag I cut down some old patterned paper to a tag size. I wasn't sure if I wanted the original paper t show through, in the end it didn't, but started with the text in the background gave me a great first layer.

I added PaperArtsy Fresco paints in Teresa Green, Turquoise, Dolly Mix , more Teresa Green, and then a little Captain Peacock. These were all brayered on.

The next later was Seth's bubble wrap stamp using Granny smith paint.

To this I added his French script stamp using Dolly Mix and his spotty stamp using Green Patina Archival ink.

To knock all this back I used one of his stencils and Snowflake paint. To finish the background I used my edging stencil PS030 with slick stix in blue and black.

Onto smoothy card I stamped my feather from EDY09, this remains one of my favourite stamps. I used Cornflower Archival ink, and then fussy cut the whole thing out.

On black card I stamped Seth's square and small scratch stamp using Slate paint, overlapped these two now become an inkwell.

The layered Splatter Proof die is crunchy wax paper. I like using crunchy as the bottom layer as it is so thin it adds very little bulk and so top layers glue gown nice and flat.

The bottom spikey layer is crunchy painted first white and then with Bougainvillea. Over this I used the Robo ring die and smoothy card painted with Dolly mix and a little Bougainveillea. The centre is the Take Flight die, painted with Cpt Peacock and a little dry brushed white.

I added some more stencilling just down the centre using Seth's Timeless and Past, present, future stencils. i then started to add some detailing using black and white pens.

The right side looked a little bare so I added Coffee ring halves, painted in Dolly Mix. I overstamped some of the die cuts with black archival ink for more interest.

I will have another sample for you on Friday.

Fabric Tags

Over on the PaperArtsy blog this week there is a challenge topic of Fabric. This can be scary for some, and others just don't like sewing, or don't have a sewing machine. So I put together these little tags using fabric but no sewing.

I started by die cutting some tags, and then did cutting a shape in the centre. I did several, all different shapes. I also cut a piece of fabric for each tag the same size as the overall large tag. All the shaped dies that I used are from PaperArtsy. (Hearts, leaves, bird)

I glued the fabric to the back of the large tags so that it shows through the die cut shape... and basically that's it.. All that is left is to add a little embellishment.

This was a white tag, I painted it with Fresco Lilac, then edged the tag using Crayola Twistables.(available from PaperArtsy)

As this tag is black card I needed the edge to have a bit of shimmer, so I blended some Treasure Gold around the edges.

I then added a ribbon and this sentiment from ESN20 using WOW embossing powder in Brass Sparkle.

This one on Kraft card just needed twine and a little ink around the edges, and the sentiment from EKD02.

The painted tag had a little lace added and the sentiment from  ELB28,

To cover the edges of the fabric on the back I added a skinny frame of card and glued that on.

If you fancy a go with fabric but no sewing then try these out, they are really, really easy.

Tilly Tomato Head

You may remember on launch night I challenged Lauren Hatwell to create a funny character using my stamps. I made one too, it was a lot of fun. Here is the tomato girl that I made.

I started with a large tag and coloured it with black gesso. Then using my new stencil PS030 I used the random edge and a white posca pen to create this wonky chequerboard.

I then used China Fresco to colour alternate areas.

using red and black posca pens I added the border.

Using my circle stencil PS031 I added circles of grunge paste to the blue squares. While the paste was still damp I scratched lines into each circle using a cocktail stick. Once dry I painted over the paste with more China and then added Treasure Gold.

Now to create Tilly..

Her eyes are the centre of the Poppy from EDY19.

Her mouth is half of a dotty circle from EDY17

Her hair is shaded lines from the centre of the frilly flower on EDY18

Once these were in place I drew around them to make the edges of the face and then painted her.

Her body is the flower head from EDY17

The wings are half of the wings from EDY17

The skirt is the large frilly flower from EDY18

The button is a texture circle from EDY19

Her legs and shoes are the spikey grasses from EDY18

I just love how she turned out. I added text taken from 2 quotes, I felt she was a little wild lol

Why don't you grab some of your stamps and see what crazy character you can come up with.
