postcard challenge

week 34 Japan.

For me it had to be Manga, when you see that word you may think it means those cute looking teenage images, actually manga just means the  comics created in Japan. Though the word Manga can also be translated into 'whimsical drawings' There are different styles of drawing within the Manga comics and also many different themed comics. in Japan people of all ages read them, and there is something for everyone, from drama and comedy to romance and horror.

Shojo manga is aimed at young girls and is focused on romance. Shonen is aimed at boys in their teens, and focuses on boys hobbies and pastimes. For males in their 20's and 30's there is a style called Seinen.

Another style is Bishojo, this comic is primarily full of very, very pretty single girls, and in contrast the style Gekiga is very dark and contains violence.

So I drew a quick manga girl, and coloured her with promarkers. These pens really are the perfect tool for these kind of images.

and for my page I went  a little softer, I first coloured the page with pink, blue and white acrylic paint...just dabbed on with a fairly dry brush.

I then drew the tree and cherry blossoms very loosely with only Derwent coloursoft pencils. Adding final details with a white posca pen.
