after finishing the bags for Moldova, i had a pile of small squares of denim left. not much use for anything really, not enough to make a bag, so I have gessoed them and will make some sort of fabric book...maybe..though when I will have time to craft now i have no idea.
While we were away we popped into a car boot sale and brought home this little haul of books....not bad for 20p each.
...
then we had a day in a town near us, that has 9 charity shops, and we picked up all these books. I am so excited to get the Chalet School Books as i collect them and they are hard to find.
My dad used to have a wee roller like that when I was a little girl. He used it for sticking and smoothing the edges of wallpaper when he was decorating. Don't know if that was it's original purpose or not though! lol
ReplyDeleteHope Ian's heels heal quickly!

I agree with Bobs. The roller is for smoothing the edges of wallpaper where they join together. I have two of them. I thought they were brayers when I bought them. Silly me!
ReplyDeleteI am fascinated by the fabric. I never thought of gessoing jean fabric. Now that's something I will have to try. Happy WOYWW and thanks for the inspiration.
Sorry to hear about your other half, hope he's on the mend soon. What a great selection of bargin books, i've read the house at riverton, really good book.
ReplyDeleteHope your OH gets well soon, horrid thing to happen.. love your book haul, and loved the chalet school books when I was young too :)))
ReplyDeleteHappy Woywwing!
So sorry to hear about your OH, must have been so painful poor thing. Poor you too as it's no fun being on elastic to the hospital.
ReplyDeleteGreat stash of books and that looks like a seam roller you acquired for wallpapering but I'm sure you'll find more crafty uses!
JoZarty x.
hey - good on you for posting - take the craft in with you - those places are full of poorly people! - you'll need some art to keep you sane...
ReplyDeleteand Him In Bed will need a regular turnaround of reading materials - and maybe now is the time for him to leaqrn to embroider some of your fabrics?
dx
What really fab finds. Look forward to seeing what you do with your roller.

Sorry to hear about your hubby, hope he gets home from hosptial soon. Your books look great - those Chalet School books brought back memories - I loved those when I was a kid and like you I collected them, sadly I no longer have mine, threw them out when I got married - big mistake!

great find! but I got distracted by your pretty cupcake bag ....I NEED one, super gorgeous :)
ReplyDeleteOh, dear! That doesn't sound good at all! I hope he heals up quickly! That roller that you found is wicked fun! I love that!
ReplyDeleteHi there, what a shame poor dear, I hope he heals quickly, lots of work for you though, all the trips are very tiring! What a lot of lovely lot of things you got. I agree it looks like a roller I use for my wallpaper edges but the thought occurred to me that you could put some cut and dry foam around the roller with the smooth (grey) side outwards(when you have some free time) and heat it and make your own stamp wheel, just a thought!:) xxx
ReplyDeleteHow on earth did he manage to break both heel bones it sounds absolutely dreadful-give him my love and don't use the seam roller for rolling pastry 'cos the wallpaper paste will taste gruesome. Like the stamp wheel idea. Charity shops are great hunting ground for books and sounds like your DH will have plenty of time to read them.Hugs Betty (plus lots of healing kisses)
ReplyDeleteOuch that sounds so painful! Hope your other half makes a speedy recovery and love all those lovely books! Take Care. Tracey x
ReplyDeleteAwe........poor you and poor OH, It sounds really painful. I hope he has a speedy recovery and you can get some crafting done in between hospital visits.
ReplyDeleteTake care........A.xx
So sorry to hear about your OH hope he is soon on the mend. Well done on all your bargain buys.
ReplyDeleteLinbyx
Oh Darcy so sorry to hear about your other half. Hope he gets better soon, my other half fell off a ladder and fractured 3 bones in his foot and was off 6 months and still limps, sorry to frighten you, but Peter would not go back and have physio him being scottish and thinking strong, but you bully your man and make him go and have physio because it does help a lot and the bones will not get twisted as I feel Peters has. Take care I will think of you, when visiting. Big hugs to both of you JO.xxx
ReplyDeleteCommiserations about your hubby's accident, I hope he'll soon be on the mend.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what that's roller was for, the curve on it is a little puzzling!
Chrissie

ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about the OH - it sounds terrible - what on earth happened?
ReplyDeleteYou seem to have some reading to catch up on - I hope your partner likes reading - he'll have some time on his hands for quite a while it seems. Hope you coping okay.
Oh my! Your poor fella! How on earth did fall/land to break his heels? Do tell! Send him my sympathies, and you make sure you get plenty of rest cos it's going to be so draining....
ReplyDeleteI'm so chuffed to discover another Chalet Girl through WOYWW - ROFL. I'm lucky, I've plugged away for the last 25 years and have managed to find all the books - I have a complete set of 62 at last! Fair drove me nuts trying to ge the last two, I can tell you! And nothing on this earth could make me part with them....
Hope your other half is getting well soon and has a quick recovery and that's a steal for all those books :)
ReplyDeletehugs Nikki
Oh gah - poor DH and poor you too - it's such a horrid shock. Keep us posted gal.
ReplyDeleteThat wood roller is the tein of one that we have that we inherited from Uncle Ray, painter and decorator - he used it to smooth glued wallpaper seams. Good haul of books - the Chalet ones stir a memory! Look after yourself, the next few days are gonna be hard hard work. x
You can never have too many books.
