To help stave off the impending insanity I have been knitting. These socks are the very first pair I made, about 5 years ago.

See the difference, I was totally shocked by how much they had faded. I hadn't even realised until i compared these photos.

Well after such good service all these years they had both worn out on the ball of the foot.

I pulled them back to the heel, intending to knit a new foot for each one. I knew i had enough of the original yarn left. But just look at the difference in colour. I didn't like this so pulled it out, and tried using a pale cream...i thought as they were so faded, a cream foot would look ok....but no, that looked stoopid too.

So i pulled the cream out, stuffed the socks in a bag and started on this new pair!
Answers on a postcard please,as to how I can salvage my old socks.
how about felting the socks and making something entirely new out of old socks? love them btw!!
ReplyDeleteGood plan, but they are not 100% wool, they are only 75% so they won't felt. I do have another pair, that are 100% wool, loved them when they were first made but after washing a few times they are now a bit felted and not really big enough lol
ReplyDeleteMake toe warmers for Ian - could come in handy for a while!!
ReplyDeleteAwww...Darcy...((hugs)) for you and I do hope that your OH will be home by the weekend. How awful for him too. It must be so frustrating being stuck in hospital.
ReplyDeleteLove the socks...very colourful! *Ü* TFS. ~Glen~
hunny you are losing it - You are the Queen of Sock Monsters - I spent a happy Saturday looking through your archives - Make a sock monster with what's left of the old faithfuls,
ReplyDeleteDx

ReplyDeleteyeah that is what I was going to say darn them they do look so cool though love cheryl xxxx
ReplyDeleteI say don't salvage, just make a new pair - I think the new ones look better anyway!
ReplyDeleteStill sendinging positive energy to you and OH!

I would create some sock monsters with the old socks, maybe elderly sock monsters

I was going to suggest felting them if they were 100% wool but as they're not then of course Doone's suggestion is the one to go with. Too late now but perhaps you could have darned them or put a felt flower over the hole LOL
ReplyDeleteAnne xx

ReplyDeletewell i say!!!!
Dx
Yep, leave em stuffed where they are until you're in the mood for darning and sock monsters. They all said what I was going to say and I htought I was clever!!
