postcard challenge

week 36. Egypt.

I started by making the usual lists of pyramids,mummies,sphinx..etc, all the obvious stuff.. and then I remembered a book that I have.

I have had this little book for years, and while I have only read half of it, i do know the story.

It is the story of an epic journey, taken by a giraffe from Africa to France.

Here is the link for this week and it is tiny, so don't blink or you will miss it.... the giraffe was a gift to Charles X from Muhammad Ali, the Ottoman Viceroy of EGYPT...

The giraffe was captured as a baby and tamed, then shipped  down the Nile for over 2,000 miles and then across the Mediterranean After a winter in Marseilles, she began the 550 mile walk to Paris.

Along the way, many thousands of people came out to see her, this oddity, never seen before.

Once in Paris the king put her on display  in the Jardin de Roi. Where she remained for 18 years until her death.

So my card is a mixed media background with the giraffe painted over it..

and with a more obvious link to Egypt here is my page..

Come back on Sunday to VOTE in the end of month comp...

HERE IS WHERE YOU LINK UP..add your name and blog and go visiting. please only link up if you are taking part in the postcard challenge.
